Then we explored the Tokugawa Art Museum which houses all sorts of shogunal furnishings, armour, and artwork. We were really impressed by the 12th century scrolls and woodblock prints depicting scenes of the The Tale of Genji. There is so much to see here! After a lovely lunch at Sakura Cafe and a walk through the garden adjacent to the museum we made our way back to Sakae to visit the Design Museum, which was an excellent contrast to the Tokugawa Art Museum. The Design Museum houses all sorts of innovative designs including furniture, cars, and technology.
But the cultural theme that emerged today was the upcoming cherry blossom season (Sakura). We saw some beautiful blossoms but think that they were actually plum blossoms. In Sakae we also enjoyed a street performance. If you listen closely you can tell that the song is about "Sakura." How fitting :-)
Beautiful picture! And in my typical OCDish way, I felt compelled to find the answer as to which type of blossom those were. I would say you are correct that they are plum rather than cherry blossoms. Aside from the early timeframe for the cherry blossoms, apparently plum blossoms do not have the "split" at the end of the petal like cherry blossoms do and the pictured ones look "unsplit."
ReplyDeleteI am printing off the picture to show my mother for her enjoyment though! I'll bet you see some cherry blossoms right at the end of your trip - you'll have to take pix of those too! I'm wondering if Brian will get to see any of the ones in DC this week...... Hope you manage to get your video of the performance loaded! I'm anxious to see it! Hope to chat with you again soon! Maybe if you find a Rounge with better wifi! ;-)
